POW Dec 3

There is a bus with 7 children inside of it. Each child has 7 backpack. In each backpack there are 7 big cats. Every big cat has 7 small cats. Everything listed above is entirely in the bus. All objects are unique. There is no driver. Every child has 2 legs. Every cat has 4 legs.

QUESTION:How many legs are in the bus? Show or explain how you found your answer.
REMEMBER:
DO NOT Copy the problem and put it in your answer!!!
Your intials are the first thing you type into Blogger!!
Good Luck!

Nice job guys! Many of you not only found the correct answer but were moving towards the correct algrithm. Here is the answer for this weeks blog. have a great weekend!
Ms. L.

Correct answer:7 kids * 2 legs = 14 legs
7 kids * 7 rucksacks = 49 rucksacks
49 rucksacks * 7 big cats * 4 legs = 1,372
legs49 rucksacks * 7 big cats * 7 small cats * 4 legs = 9,604
legs14 + 1,372 + 9,604 = 10,990 legs total.

This may also be shown as a simple powers of 7 problem:
Total legs = 7^1 * 2 + 7^2 * 0 + 7^3 * 4 + 7^4 * 4. This is because there are:7^1 * 2 kids legs7^2 rucksacks (But they don't have legs)7^3 * 4 big cat legs7^4 * 4 small cat legsOf course, 7^2 * 0 could be omitted completely, but I include it just to show the progression of powers of 7.

Here are my thoughts on this problem. Someone may want to immediately do 7x2, 7x4, and 7x4 to get the answer. However, it must be done differently.
There are 7 children, 2 legs each.

(7 x 2) = children legs; 14

7 backpacks, 7 big cat each.

(7 x 7 x 4) = big cat legs; 196

49 big cats, 7 little cats each.

(49 x 7 x 4) = little cat legs; 1372

Add all legs together.

14 + 196 + 1372 = 1582 legs.

The equation for this scenario is:

(7 x 2) + (7^2 x 4) + (7^3 x 4) = l,

l – legs

This can also be explained by figuring:
7 big cats in each pack
7 little cats for each big one
7 x 7 + 7 to include all cats
56 x 7 for all cats in backpacks
392 x 4 for all cat legs
1568 cat legs + 14 for 7 x 2 human legs
1582 legs  <-(were smileys in word), copy paste is word.

1. 7 children * 2 legs = 14 legs
2. 7 children * 7 backpacks = 49 backpacks
3. 49 backpacks * 7 big cats = 343 big cats
4. 343 big cats * 4 legs = 1372 legs
5. 343 big cats * 7 small cats = 2401 small cats
6. 2401 small cats * 4 legs = 9604 legs
7. 14 legs + 1372 legs + 9604 legs = 10990 legs total

1. 7 children have 14 legs total
2. 7 children have 7 backpacks each, total there are 49 backpacks
3. each of the 49 backpacks have 7 big cats, total there are 343 big cats
4. each of the big cats have 4 legs, total there are 1372 legs from only big cats
5. each big cats have 7 small cats, total there are 2401 small cats
6. each of the small cats have 4 legs, total there are 9604 legs from only small cats
7. add the legs together, 14, 1372, and 9604, equals 10990 total legs

7^1= the amount of children on the bus
7^2 = the amount of backpacks on the bus
7^3= the amount of big cats on the bus
7^4= the amount of small cats on the bus

343*4=1,372
343*7=2,401
2401*4=9,604

14+ (2,744)4=?
14+10,976=10,990

There are 7 kids on a bus with no driver. Each of the kids have 7 backpacks so 7*7=49 backpacks. Each of the 7 kids have 2 legs so 7*2=14. In the 49 backpacks, there are 7 big cats with to legs each so 7*49=343, and have 4 legs so 343*4=1,372. Each of the 343 big cats each have 7 little cats so 343*7=2401, and they each have 4 legs so, 2401*4=9,604 legs. If we add all of the legs up, but not the 49 backpacks, then we have an answer of 10,990 legs.

This problem was quite simple, and here is how it was done

Children: 2 legs each

Big Cats: 4 legs each

Small Cats: 4 legs each

7 children = 14 legs

7 cats per child, or 7x7 = 49

7 small cats per cat, or 49x7 = 343

Now, sense there are 49 big cats, and each one has 4 legs, that would be 196 legs for them.

And, sense each small cat has four legs, and there are 343 small cats, that would make 1372 legs for that group.

So, all together, that would make 1582 legs on the bus.

The problem in mathematical form would be 14 + 196 + 343 = 1572
(kids) (cats) (cats) (total)

The problem algebraically would be as follows, with x being the total amounts of legs and y being the amount of kids.

x = y x 2 + 7y x (7 X 4) x (7 x 4)

7 CHILDREN *2= 14 LEGS
49 BACKPACKS
343 BIG CATS *4= 1372 LEGS
2401 LITTLE CATS *4= 9604 LEGS
10990 total legs

7(2)+(7^4+7^3)4=?
14+(2401+343)4=?
14+(2744)4=?
14+10976=10990
To figure this problem out the first thing I did was notice there was seven children and each child had two legs which meant there was already fourteen known legs on the bus. After that I noticed every child had seven backpacks. That meant that there was a total of 49 backpacks in the bus. In each backpack there was seven big cats which meant there was 343 big cats. When you multiplied 343 times 4 you got 1372 legs. Since there was 343 big cats and each big cat had seven little cats you had to multiply 343 *7 and you got 2401 little cats. When you multiplied 2401 times 4 you got 9604. Then when you add 9604+ 1372+14 you ended up with 10990 total legs.

This weeks POW relates to a bus and the people on it. There are seven kids with a certain amount of backpacks with cats with cats, and how to solve for how many legs there are total on the bus. It can be solved as follows…
1 bus
7 kids each with 2 legs
7 backpacks
7 cats each with 4 legs

7 kids with two legs= 14
49 backpacks with seven kittens= 343
343 big cats with seven kittens= 2401
343 big cats with four legs=1372
2401 small cats with 4 legs= 9604
14 legs+1372 legs+9604 legs=10990 legs
Algebraically, this problem can be solved. There is one bus with seven kids. This is… Y=1(7*2)
Now add to the equation the amount of backpacks times the amount of big cats inside each backpack…
Y=1(7*2)+(49*7)
Now add to that the amount of big cats by their amount of kittens…
Y=1(7*2)+(49*7)+(343*7)
Now multiply the amount of big cats by the amount of legs they have and add that to the equation…
Y=1(7*2)+(49*7)+(343*7)+(343*4)
The next step is to multiply the amount of kittens by their amount of legs…
Y=1(7*2)+(49*7)+(343*7)+(343*4)+(2401*4)
Now simplify…
Y=14+343+2401+1372+9604
Now solve the right side of the equation…
Y=10990 or there are 10990 legs on the bus total

The POW for this week was a hard one. We had to find out how many legs are on the bus. It started with 7 kids and expanded too many kittens. We decided to take the easy way and go step by step. It started with 7 X 2= 14. That gave us the number of kids’ legs. Then we wanted to find the big cat legs. To get the number of big cat legs, we had to find the number of backpacks. So we multiplied 7 X 7 which equaled 49. After that we got the number of big cats. It was 49(7) = 343. To make that whole step easier, it turned into 7^3. We multiplied 343 cats by four legs each, which led us to 1,372 big cat legs. For the number of kittens, we multiplied 343 by our favorite number 7. Can you believe that there were 2,401 kittens on that bus! To skip that last step, we turned it into 7^4. For the finally amount of legs, we multiplied 2,401 by 4. That gave us 9,604 kitten legs. So to put all the amount of legs together there were 10,990 legs total. To write that into an equation, it was 7x2+7^3x4+7^4x4=10990. 14+1372+9604=10990.

That was as hard as our POW is this week!

There are 6,188 legs on the bus. To get this answer we used the equation:
7(2) +7^3(4) +7^4(4)
Here are the steps to find the total number of legs:
7(2) +7^3(4) +7^4(4)
14+7^3(4) +7^4(4)
14+343(4) +2401(4)
14+1372+4802= 6188
The 7(2) stands for the 7 kids and their 2 legs each. The 7^3(4) is the 7 kids 49 backpacks which contain 343 big cats who each have 4 legs. finally the 7^4(4) represents the 7 kids 49 backpacks with 343 big cats who each have 7 kittens which each have 4 legs. The children have a total of 14 legs and the big cats have 1,372 legs plus the 4,802 kitten legs making a total of 6,188 legs on the bus. =]

ok so there's this EXTREMELY large bus with only 7 kids in it. The 7 kids have 7 cats. The 7 cats each have 7 other smaller cats. Each cat has 4 legs... each kid has two. How many legs are in the bus?
I believe that there are 10990 legs in the bus.
First I started out with finding the amount of kids' legs. There are 7 kids so there are 14 kids' legs in all.
Each kid has 7 backpacks, which makes 49 backpacks in all in the bus.
each backpack has 7 big cats in it. To figure out how many cats, you multiply 49 (the amount of backpacks) by 7 (the amount of cats in each bag.) You get an answer of 343 big cats in all.
To figure out how many small cats there are, you need to multiply the number of big cats by 7, since there are 7 small cats per big cat. You get an awnser of 2401 small cats in all in the bus.
To get how many legs are in all, since each cat has 4 legs, you need to multiply 343 (the # of big cats) by 4 and 2401 (the # of small cats in all) by 4 also. For the big cats you get an answer of 1372 legs and for the small cats you get an answer of 9604 legs.
You then have to add 14( the # of kids' legs), 1372 (the # of big cats legs), and 9604 (the # of small cats legs.) You get a total of 10990 which is how many legs are in the bus!
Kids- 7x2=14
Big Cats- 49x7x4=1372
Small cats- 343x7x4=9604
14+1372+9604=10990
This is very resemblant of an exponential relationship. You must multiply the # before by 7 to get the answer to multiply that # by 7 and so on until you have the maximum # you need. You also had to multiply some of the #s by four and 2, so that is why I say "resemblant".
The equation for this is 7^x(4x4x2)or at least I think so because of the exponential relationship.

There are 6,188 legs on the bus. An algebraic equation that can be used to solve this is:
7(2)+7^3(4)+7^4(4)=
These are my steps:
7(2)+343(4)+2401(4)=
14+1372+4802=
1386+4802= 6188

In this equation, the "7(2)" is for the amount of childrens' legs. The "7^3(4)" is for the amount of kids times the amount of backpacks (49 or 7^2) then multiplied by the amount of cats in each backpack(7) which would give you 7^3! Then you would multiply that by 4 because that's how many legs each big cat has. The "7^4(4)" is for the amount from the last times the amount of little cats (7) which would be 7^4! Then you would multiply that by 4 for that amount of legs each little cat has.....THEN...FINALLY...you add them all together and get how many legs that are in the bus which is....6188 legs!!!

The POW this week said that there were 7 kids on a bus and each kid had 7 backpacks. In each backpack there were 7 big cats and each big cat had 7 kittens. The POW wants you to find how many legs there are total on the bus. The first thing that we did was 7(2)=14 which is the number of kids multiplied by how many legs each kid has and there is 14 legs total for the kids. Then we did 7(7) =49 to get how many backpacks there are. After that we did 49(7) which is the number of backpacks multiplied by how many big cats there were and there was 343 big cats total. Next we did 343(4)=1372 which is the number of big cats multiplied by how many legs each cat has and 1372 is the total number of legs for the big cats. Then we did 343(7)= 2401 which was the number of big cats multiplied by how many kittens each big cat had which came out to be 2401 kittens. Then we did 2401(4)=9604 which was the number of kittens multiplied by how many legs each kitten had and the total kitten legs were 9604. Then we had to add the legs for everyone together which was 14+1372+9604=10990.
Since we had make a algebraic equation it looked like this:
10990=7(2) +7^3(4)+7^4(4).
SOLVE
10990= 14 +1372+9604
10990=10990

First I found how many children’s legs there were and so I timed 2 by 7 and got 14. Then I found how many big cat legs there were so I timed 7 by, 7 by, 7 by, 4 or 7^3 * 4 and there were 1,372 legs. I then found how many little cat legs there were so I timed 7 by, 7 by, 7 by ,7 by, 4 or 7^4 * 4 and I got 9,604 legs. Finally, I added all the legs together 14+1,372+9,604=10,990 legs on the school bus.

The whole equation is (7*2+7^3+7^4)*4=10,990

First I calculated the amount of legs on each item on the bus I included the backpacks even though they had no legs because the backpacks were included in the list of items on the bus.

I did this by first multiplying the seven kids on the bus by the 7 backpacks for each kid

7x7=49 backpacks

Then I multiplied the 49 backpacks by the 7 big cats in each backpack

49x7=343 big cats

Then I multiplied the big cats by the little cats with each big cats.

343x7=1372

Then I found the amount of legs on each item

7 kids=14 legs

49 backpacks= 0 legs

343 big cats= 1372 legs

2401 little cats= 9604 legs

Then I added up all the legs

All legs=10,990

Really the amount of items are exponentially growing.

Y=X^7^7^7 (algebra)

My Steps:

7 kids
7 backpacks
7 Big cats in each

Big Cats Legs:
7*7=49
49*7=343
343*4=1372

Little Cats:
343
8*7=2401
2401*4=9604

Cats legs altogether:
9604+1372=10,976

Kids Legs:
7*2=14

Legs altogether:
10,976 + 14= 10,990

Algebraic Equation:
**X=7
**L stands for total number of legs.

(x³*4) + (x³*x)*4 + 14 = L

Substitution:
(7³*4) + (7³*7)*4 + 14 = L

Solve:
(1372) + (2401) * 4 + 14 = L
1372 + 9604 + 14 = L
1372 + 9618 = L
L = 10, 990

I realized there were 7 children with 7 backpacks so that equals 49 back packs. There were 7 big cats in each back pack. That equals 343 big cats. Then there were 7 small cats for every big cat so the number of small cats was 2,401. I added the number of small cats, 2401 plus the number of big cats which was 343 and got 2,744. I knew that each cat had 4 legs so I multiplied 2,744 by 4 and got 10,976. I then knew that each of the seven children had 2 legs and I got 14 and added that to the 10,976 and got 10,990 legs.
Work
7*7=49
49*7=343
343*7=2,401
2401+343=2,744
2744*4=10,976
7*2=14
10976+14=10,990
After doing all that stuff I realized that there was a simple equation that got the same answer.
(7 to the 7nth power)4+7*2
2744*4+14=?
10,976+14=10,990

Here are my thoughts on this problem. Someone may want to immediately do 7x2, 7x4, and 7x4 to get the answer. However, it must be done differently.
There are 7 children, 2 legs each.

(7 x 2) = children legs; 14

49 backpacks, 7 big cat each.

(49 x 7 x 4) = big cat legs; 1372

343 big cats, 7 little cats each.

(343 x 7 x 4) = little cat legs; 9604

Add all legs together.

14 + 1372 + 9604 = 1582 legs.

The equation for this scenario is:

(49 x 2) + (7^3 x 4) + (7^4 x 4) + 14 = l,

l – legs

This can also be explained by figuring:
49 total packs
7 big cats in each pack
7 little cats for each big one
7 x 7 + 7 to include all cats
56 x 49 for all cats in all backpacks
2744 x 4 for all cat legs
10976 cat legs + 14 for 7 x 2 human legs
10990 legs  <-(were smileys in word), copy paste is word.

There are 7 children with 7 backpacks which equals 49 backpacks. In each of the backpacks there are 7 big cats and that makes 343 big cats altogether. There are 7 small cats for every big cats so that makes 2401 small cats. Then I added the number of big cats and the number of small cats and I got 2744. then I multiplied the numbers of legs on each cat which is 4 and I got 10976. then I multiplied the number of legs on each child, which is 2, and the number of bigs cats in each backpack which is 7, and got 14. then I added 14 and 10976 and got 10990. so there are 10990 legs on the bus.

7*7=49
49*7=343
343*7=2401
2401+343=2744
2744*4=10976
7*2=14
10976+14=10900

This equation is in a much simpler form of the work above.

I found that there are seven children in the bus, each child has seven backpacks. Each backpack has seven big cats and each big cat has seven small cats. Every child has two legs and every cat has four legs. So then I found out how many children legs there were. The way I did that was I ; multiplied seven by two and that was fourteen then I found out how many big cat legs there were, I therefore multiplied seven cubed by four and got 1,372 legs. Then I found out how many little cat legs there were so I multiplied seven to the fourth power by four and I got 9,604 legs. Last but not least I added all the legs together and got 10,990 legs.

EQUATION: (7•2+7^3+7^4)•4=10,990

There is 10,990 legs total on the bus. I put the equation (x^3 * 4) + (x^3 * 7)4 + 14 = L; x=7
I used this to plug in seven and this was the amount of cats and backpacks. The x to the third meant the total amount of big castor 7 to the third. I found this by taking the seven cats per backpack times the 7 ones and then the kids 7. This times 4 gave me the amount of big cat legs. Then I have x to the third (the amount of big cats) multiplied by 7. The amount of little cats the big cats had. This times 4 gave the amount of small cat legs. Then I added this together to get 1372+9604+14 this 14 came from the legs of the kids. This together got me 10,990.

What we know- there are 7 children in a bus each one has seven backpacks and each backpack have 7 cats in it that each has 7 kittens. All of the children have 2 legs and all of the cats have 4 legs.

7x7=49
49x49=2401 cats
2401x4=9604 cat legs
9604+14=9618 total legs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I solved this problem by first multiplying 7 backpacks times 7 kids to get 49 back packs. Then I multiplied 49 backpacks by 49 cats because there are 49 cats in each backpack and got 2401 cats. Then I multiplied 2401 by 4 to see how many cat legs were on the bus. I got 9604. I added 14 to 9604 because there are 14 children legs and my final answer for number of legs on the bus was 9618.
My formula- 7 to the 1374th power

There are 343 big cats which come from 7*7*7=343.
Now there are 2401 cats because each cat had 7 cats and 343*7=2401
Each cat has 4 legs and 2401cats*4legs=9604 cat legs.
Each of the 7 kids have two legs (obviously) and 7children*2legs=14legs.
9604 cat legs and 14 children legs equals 9618 legs total.

7*7=49 49*7=343 343*7=240 2401*4=9604 7*2=14
9604+14=9619 total legs

7 children 7 backpacks per child 7 big cats 7 small cats
1 child= 7 big cats x 7 small cats= 49 cats per one backpack
7 backpacks per one child x 7 children= 49 backpacks
49 cats x 49 backpacks= 2401 cats
2401 cats x 4 cat legs= 9604 cat legs
7 children x 2 legs= 14 legs
9604 cat legs+ 14 children legs= 9618 legs all together

There are 9604 legs. I first found out how many cats per one backpack. Then I found out that there war 49 backpacks all together because each child has 7 backpacks. Then I multiplied the 49x49 because there are 49 backpacks and 49 cats per one backpack. I got 2401 cats. Then I multiplied it by 4 because each cat has 4 legs and got 9604 legs and that’s how many cat legs are on the bus. Then I multiplied 7 (that’s how many children there are) by 2 because each child has 2 legs and got 14. Then I added the 9604 cat legs plus 14 children legs and got 9618 legs all together.

The equation for this problem would be: (7^4x4)+(7x2)

7x7 the first 7 is the number of children. The second 7 is the number of backpacks per. = 49
49x7 the 49 is the answer from 7x7. The 7 is the number of big cats per child. = 343
343x7 the 343 is the answer from 49x7. The 7 is the number of small cats per child. = 2401
2401x4 the 2401 is the number of cats total. The 4 is the number of legs per cat. = 9604
7x2 The 7 is the number of children. The 2 is the number of legs per child. = 14
9604+14 = 9618 the number of legs on the bus

7*7= 49backbacks
7 big * 7small cats= 49
49*49= 2401
2401*4= 9604 cat legs

7*2= 14 kid legs

9604+14= 9618 legs all together

There are 9618 legs all together.
If you multiply 7*7 together that will show you how many backpacks there are all together. Than you have to multiply 7*7 again to get the total of cats.
Then I multiplied 49*49 together to get the total amount of cats, I did this because there are 49 backpacks and in each backpack that a kid has, they have 49 cats.
Then I multiplied 2401, which is how many cats there are by 4 because each cat has 4 legs.

Then I multiplied 7*2 because there are 7 students and each has 2 legs.
Then I added it together….
And got my answer

The equation would be (7^4x4)+(7x2)

Ok, so you must account everything on the bus. I am going to first list all the things on the bus.
7 children= 14 legs
7children= 7 backpacks
7backpacks= 7 big cats = 7 small cats.
All together, that would mean that 7children= 7 backpacks= 7 big cats = 7 small cats.

7x7=49
49x49=2401 cat legs
2401x4=9604 cat legs
9604+14= 9618 legs on the bus.

You multiply 7 by 7, because each child has 7 backpacks. Then you multiply 2041 by 4, because cats have 4 legs. Then you add 9604 and 14 for the children’s legs, and you come out with the grand total of 9618 legs on the bus!

An equation for the legs for children would be 2x, because humans have 2 legs.
An equation for legs of cats would be 4x, because cats have 4 legs.
An equation for how many cats a student has in all if they have 7 backpacks would be 49x, because in each backpack, there are 7 big cats, and each cat has 7 little cats.
To find how many cat legs are in the bus, you would do 4x, multiplied by the number of cats, which is pretty much the same thing as the equation for cat legs.
Then you would do 2x+9604, for adding the cat and human legs together.

The overall equation would then be 7^4x4(7x2)

Show how solved it:
I solved it by multiplying the children by their backpacks then by multiplying each cat in the backpacks. Then I multiplied that # by the other little cats that came from the big cats. After that I had to figure out the question by seeing how many legs this all was…9,604. Then I remembered I had to add the children’s legs which equaled…9,618 legs total.

Tell her using mathematical terms:
There is 7 children= 14 legs

7 children x 7 backpacks x 7 cats each= 343 cats
343 x 7 little cats= 2,401 cats

2,401 x 4 legs per cat= 9,604
9,604 + 14= 9,618 legs

The Grand Total= 9,618 legs

Try your best putting it in algebraic terms:
These are equations I used to find the answer
An equation for the cats legs would be 4x because you can multiply the 4 legs each by however many cats there are.
An equation for children would be 2x because you can times it for however many children there are.
An equation for how many cats there are is 7x because there was 7 big and little cats.
An equation for how many backpacks there are is 7x because I multiplied how many backpacks there were by cats.
In the end all this equals out to the equation:
7 to the power of 4x4+14=9,618 legs

There are 7 kids

7x7= 49

49 backpacks
7 cats in each
49x7=343

343 cats
Each has 7 cats inside each cat
343x7=2,401

2,401 cats
Each cat has 4 legs
2,401x4=9,604

9,604 kitty legs
14 child legs
9,604+14= 9,618

9,618 legs

What I did was took the problem piece by piece. First I figured out how many backpacks there were. Then I figured out how many cats there were inside of the backpacks. Next I figured out how many cats there were in all (adding in the ones inside the cats)
After, I multiplied the number of cats by 4 to find out the number of kitty legs. Then , I multiplied the number of people by 2 to get the number of human legs. Lastly I added the kitty legs and the human legs to get the answer.

Equation
7^4x4+ (7x2)

There are 343 big cats because of 7*7*7
Multiply 343 by 7 is 2401
2401 multiplied by 4 is 9604
Because of each kid having 2 legs you need to add 14 to 9604 is 9618 legs on the bus.

Basically 49 cats per kid’s backpack you have 7 backpacks that’s 343 cats per kid multiply that by 7 and you get 2401 cats in total multiply that by 4 is 9604 legs add on the 14 kid’s legs and you have a total of 9618 legs.

(7*7*7*7*4)+(7*2)=9618

If there are 7 kids and 7 backpacks per kid, you have 49 backpacks. Per every cat there is 7 cats so that is 49 cats per backpack. 49 backpacks x 49 cats= 2401 cats. 2401 cats x 4 legs is 9604 cat legs. There are 14 human legs because 7 kids x 2 legs= 14 legs.
9604 plus 14 = 9618 legs.

Well, this is an algebraic problem, which needs the problem divided into different parts.

First, there are 7 children; each has 2 legs so they have 14 legs total.
Then each child has 7 backpacks, so 7 times 7 is 49 total backpacks.
In each backpack there are 7 big cats, so 7 times 49 is 343 cats.
Then each big cat has 7 small cats, so 7 times 343 is 2401 cats.
Then to find the total legs for the cats you add 2401 with 343 which is 2744 then times the sum by 4, which is 10976 plus the 14 kid legs is 10990.

(7x2)+ (7^4) +343) x4) is the equation for the question.

1) 7*2=14 legs for the kids
2) 8*7=56 cats in one backpack
3) 56*4=224 legs in one backpack
4) 224*7=1568 # of cat legs for one child
5) 1568*7=10976 # of cat legs for all children
6) 10976+14= 10990 # of legs on the whole entire bus

Number One is the amount of legs for the children. When it goes 8*7 which comes out to be 56 is the number of cats in one backpack, because what you are doing is 7*7+7 because 7*7 is the amount of small cats and the +7 is the seven big cats Number Three is just multiplying the amount of cats in one backpack by 4 (number of legs each cat has) and got 224 legs for one backpack but each kid has seven backpacks each so in number four I multiplied 224 by 7 so that equaled 1568 legs of cats for one child (not counting the child legs). But there is not just one kid but 7 so you multiply 1568 by seven for all the kids and you get 10976 number of cat legs but that is still not the end because you have to count the amount of the children’s legs which is fourteen so 10976 plus fourteen is 10990 number of legs for the entire bus.

(8*7*4*7*7)+ (7*2) = 10990 this is it in algebraic form.

There are 7 kids so 7 x 2 = 14 and then each kid has 7 big cats’ means that there are 28 big cat legs.
Next each Big cat has 7 small cats if you count up the number of cats in each backpack, then you’ll get 224 cat legs in each backpack pack. So, 224 x 7 = 1568 then that multiplied by the 7 kids equals 10,976 plus the 14 kid legs is a total of 10,990 legs! (Each kid has 7 big cats in their 7 backpacks)

1. 7 x 2 = 14
2. 7 x 8 = 56 (same thing as saying 7 x 7= 49 + 7 = 56)
3. 56 (Number of cats in one backpacks) x 4 (number of legs each cat has) = 224
4. 224 (Total legs) x 7 (Cats) = 1,568
5. 1,568 x 7 ( number of kids) = 10,976
6. 10, 976 + 14 legs for kids = 10,990
7. Total = 10,990
8 x 7 x 4 x 7 x 7 + 2 x 7 = 10,990 equation above
