Asking 8th Graders

Here is your chance, before they leave ask them anything you want. Today you are to post three questions.

Question one needs to be regarding success in the 8th grade.
Question two needs to be regarding 8th grade Honors Math class.
And the final question is anything you want.

Make sure that no one has asked any of your questions. Each question needs to be unique.

In Eighth grade is it important to fool around at times or are the teachers stricter and want discipline? Will you be successful but still be able to fool around in class.

In Honors math are the tests more important, like the test to get credit for Mrs. Leckman class? Was that test hard?

Is Mrs. Leckman's teaching as fast as she threatens it to be? In a lot of grades they tell us how tough and hard the next grade is going to be and it usually isn't that

Good ol’ 8th graders…..

My first question is How do you balance the time you spend with friends, and the time you spend on school work, without excluding you friend time completely, or forgetting all about your schoolwork?

My second question is when it comes to 8th grade AEP classes, is it much different than our AEP classes as 7th graders, such as, the challenges or homework amount.

My third question is in which year did you learn more, your 7th or 8th grade year? Was it the curriculum you learned or just your mind set?

Answer to RB:
1. It kind of depends on what concept we were learning. In average, I would say about 30-45 minutes but some nights we don't have any and some nights we have 2 hours.
2. How hard is the homewrok? I'd say about a 7 or 8 on average. At the beginning of the year it was more like a 4 or 5, but as you get deeper into the concepts, the homework gets harder.
3. Yes I like AEp math because its a great challenge. I'd say at least and 8 or nine.

The 7th grade work and 8th grade work is MUCH different. You would think that they would be pretty close, but really, it gets rough at times, and it’s much more difficult. Homework isn’t that bad. It never has been. But the most important thing to remember is to do your work ON TIME! If you don’t, that’s when the amount of homework gets bad because it just keeps piling up. That’s the most important thing you have to remember. There isn’t much to worry about. Ms. Leakman is VERY understanding, and she will help you with anything you need help with. No worries. Just relax.

1. There are many things you need to successful in the 8th grade. The biggest thing to remember is to keep calm. Sometimes things can get tough and you should always keep level headed. You should also never procrastinate. Putting things off is never a good thing.

2. 8th grade honors is just like 7th grade honors. The only difference is it goes more in depth on things. Something that is hard and stressful is the AQT test. It is the final test at the end of the year for honors math students. It can be stressful, but when you take it, it is not as difficult as it seems. Like I said before, keep calm. It is never that bad.

3. The best thing about 8th grade is the fact that we end up doing some fun activities. We go to the park a lot and it is very fun. There are some games along the way.

1 - The most important thing to being successful in eighth grade is to do your work and stay on top of the material being taught. If you just do the homework and learn the material, the entire year will be a snap. Just make sure that you know what’s being taught, and as long as you do that, any tests or benchmarks will be incredibly easy.

2 – The hardest part of eighth grade honors is probably the quadratics you do at the end of the year in math. Everything that you will be taught will lead up to it and you will need order of operations, algebra, number sense, and quick computations to do quadratics. On the upside, it is also the most fun section in the whole math curriculum.

3 – The most fun about eighth grade is what you do after the AIMS. During this time, work slows down greatly, and you will get a lot of benefits, such as less homework, easier work, occasional free-times, and half days.

1.For math AEP, when I get homework, it usually takes me an hour to completely and to the best of my abilities to accomplish the homework. In all of my classes combined, it usually takes me two hours.
2. homework = 6 class work = 6 since usually the homework is the same as the class work.

I am responding to a post that had no initials on it

The eighth grade is a little harder during the end of the year. We still do as much work as we do in the beginning of the year. The days seem to go slower towards the end of the year. We can’t wait to graduate but we have to do a lot of work to be able to graduate.

The eighth grade is harder than the seventh grade. We take more tests but they are things we learned all ready. Ms. Leckman’s class is harder but once you look at what you are learning you realize that you had already gone over some of it in Seventh grade. The Eighth grade is really easy if you take good notes.

The Eighth grade teachers are nice. The science teachers are had to deal with. They appreciate nice things but want the students to be good (like any teacher). I have Mr. L. and he is fun to be with but my fellow students are not mature and tend to make him mad. But once you figure out how to get on his good side he is nice. Other than Science the teachers are a lot of fun. I don’t know if you are in AEP language or not but I don’t know what the language arts teachers are like. (Ms. Campbell is not as bad as she sounds)

Response to JL2:
1. Well, I don’t exactly know how to tell you about my succession. But, I think it’s important to remember to do your work on time, and to listen. Eighth grade is not the time to mess around. Of course you should have fun, that’s not the point I’m trying to make. It’s the fact that if you mess around too much, you wont be up to date and it will be hard to catch up.
2. The best thing about eighth grade honors is probably the laughs that the class shares. The things you learn are awesome, no doubt. But the times where the class just shares a “moment” is the best thing. ((:
3. The best thing about being an eighth grader is probably the privileges you get. For instance, when we all go to the park, teachers relax and you get to see a side of them you never knew. Not to mention when we get to go to water world. I can’t even imagine all the fun we are going to have. There is so much to look forward to. But remember, don’t try and rush through the year. Take your time. Cause once the year is over, your gone. =/

for the first question, i spend the day tim, so from after school till about 7:00 hangin out with my friends, then i do my homework at night be4 i go 2 bed. that way i can do both

for the second, the class isnt to bad, it seems bad now, but once you get 2 it, its pretty easy. but the homework is horrible. we get it every night and it takes like 2 hours to finish!!!!!!!! nawwwww im jk, its just like one worksheet a couple times a week, no sweat.

finally, i think i learnd more in 8th grade because i actually paid attention this year. n i dont know how to answer the cirriculum thing or whatever it was.

so there you have, ima go swimming in a world of dreams right now soooo later

DON'T TRY THE 8TH GRADE LIKE I DID!!! I had a lot of spare time to hang out and do whatever with whoever because I pushed my work off. I would usually do it, but not untill after midnight. It really messed up the day after because I would be so tired! I didnt find out untill the end of the year that doing your work directly after school really helps because you can't grow if you don't sleep. Doing your work as soon as you can gives you the rest of the day to do what you want (flirt). There really isn't very much or hard H.W. as long as you do it.

I can't answer your other questions because I wasn't here last year so....

Good Luck! LOVE YOU BEST FRIEND!!!

- Time spent with your friends and time spent doing homework can be a difficult thing to manage. But you just have to get your priorities straight. I think that you should manage both things equally. I know that sometimes your friends may not have the same classes that you do so you might not be spending time with them. And the homework in math can become difficult if you do not turn it in on time or you fail to complete it. I think that it just depends on how comfortable you feel with your homework and the rest will work itself out.

- The work for the 7th and 8th graders is probably pretty different. I would say that it’s more challenging. The work load isn’t that big but it can become that way if you don’t turn your work in. I think that’s the most important part to remember, because Ms. Leckman is one of those understanding teachers. (=

- I wasn’t here for 7th grade but I think that I learned A LOT more in 8th grade AEP.

In order to stay on her good side dont talk in class nd whatever you do always carry a pen. If you dont have a pen and you have to take a test you will get a zero. You also have to do all your homework.
2. The eighth grade honors is pretty much the same. You will have the same amount of homework. There wont really be anything different.

To answer your first question S.S., you will know when it is appropriat to goof, around, usualy when the teacher is in a good mood and they are being humorous as well, it means that it will be ok to joke with them, but it also depends on the teacher, you will get to know them and there attitude.
In honors math, the tests are just about as important as they are now, exept for your AQT test witch is a placment test for high school, you'll really need to study for that.
And last, Ms.Leckmans class is faster than 7th grade, but you will get used to it and get into a steady groove.

Yeah, I would go back to the beginning of the year to start 8th grade all over again just to have another year with all my friends. You may be anxious to graduate now, but when that time actually comes you're not going to want it to end no matter how miserable you may think you are. Different friends will go to different high schools and that is just something you are going to have to deal with. I wouldn't change the things that I did throughout the year because I think I actually had a pretty good year. Just be sure to make the right decisions with guys & everything because you have to respect the guys feelings & yours at the same time & that's never easy. My best advice to you is to wait for high school to date because in middle school no one takes relationships serioiusly & most guys are inconsiderate. Cherish the time that you have to spend in 8th grade & you will be alright.

Is Mrs. Leckman's teaching as fast as she threatens it to be? In a lot of grades they tell us how tough and hard the next grade is going to be and it usually isn't that.

Well, Ms. Leckman is right, she does go pretty fast when she's teaching new things. The most important thing is to take really good notes, and pay very close attention, because most likely, she's going to ask you to do a problem. Just remember to take notes and pay attention, and you'll do great!

For the first question, it really depends on how fast you are. For me on average homwork takes about an hour to an hour an a half. The amth takes about 30 to 45 minutes.

For your second question, if you pay attention for the most part its fairly easy(average 5) it can take a while because ms leckman requires ALL the steps to be recorded but the processes are easy.

JJ

For the third question you put 8th grade teachers aren't too hard on students. Except a one science teacher. If you think your 7th grade science teacher is strick you aint seen nothin yet.

Anonymous said...

D.M. to E.K.

Question 1. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would have to say "7" would be a good answer on how hard it is. If you do not try it is tough to succeed. The year can be tough on people so if you're a procrastinator like I am, you need to get over it. Quickly.

Question 2. On a scale of 1 to 10 on 8th grade honors, "8", would be suitable. As long as you pay attention to what is going on, you should be able to breeze through things. I don't know if you pay attention, but last year I didn't pay enough attention. I struggled in the beginning, but now I can tell you what I have learned because I have paid attention.

Question 3. The best 8th grade teacher is... different for different people. If you're favorite subject is math, you definitly want the teacher you have this year. She is a great teacher and can teach you a lot. If you like science, you might want the science teacher that does more on chemistry type things than the one who is more body type. If you like L.A. you should have a teacher who you believe will help with your favorite topiv more. And if you like Social Studies, pick one that you feel more comfortable with.

1. On a scale from one to ten, it was like a four. Like, when you do your work and you take notes, it’s very easy to be successful. There aren’t many things I can tell you. But just remember to do your work!
2. Eighth grade honors can be rough. But all minds work differently. For me, honors was like…a five. But some kids understand more than others. It just depends on you’re learning abilities.
3. The best teacher? Wow, that’s an EASY question. Ms. Leckman. NO DOUBT! She helps you out, she forgives you, she talks to you. She is, by far, the best teacher. I love her, to be honest, she is like my mom. She has always been there when I looked like I wasn’t having the best day, and when I was feeling like I wasn’t doing well in math, she would reassure me. Unlike other teachers, she has time for her students. She stays up night after night trying to make everything great for us. She IS the absolute best teacher. ((:

2. The 8th grade honors class this year isn't that different form 7th grade. You will use alot of what you learned in 7th grade and apply it to your work. However, you will learn new things that might be hard at first, but Ms. Leckman will walk you through how to do it.

- I would say that the homework for math is about a 6. The only reason why I say a 6 is because I don’t think my best subject is math but Ms. Leckman makes it much easier for me and is very good at what she does. Oh, and she doest give very much homework, so don’t worry. (=
As for the other classes homework is very, very easy.

- Hmm, chapters in a week? Only one chapter in week, except at the end we might cram a little bit. And we only use two books, the green one and the red one.

- I prefer my AEP classes over all the others but I just think that’s because I absolutely LOVE the teachers. Especially Ms. Leckman [=. But overall the teachers in the 8th grade teach their subject well. But I think that it just depends on how much you enjoy that subject and the classroom environment.

In Eighth grade is it important to fool around at times or are the teachers stricter and want discipline? Will you be successful but still be able to fool around in class.

The teachers in eighth grade aren't as mean and strict as they might seem. Alot of them are very nice and do like to fool around at time. And it is important to just let go and have some fun because you don't want to get too overstressed.

In Honors math are the tests more important, like the test to get credit for Mrs. Leckman class? Was that test hard?

The test that we took to get credit fo Ms. Leckman's class was a little hard. But the most important thing is to take notes and ask questions whenever you need help. If you do that then the tests should be easy.

2. Yes, 8th grade is a lot different than 7th grade. Ms. Leckman cracks down. You do you work or it’s a zero. She is preparing you for high school. Sometimes, she might seem like “w”itch, but, she wants to help you. That’s it! It’s really not that bad!
3. High school? Yeah, I’m nervous. Madison Number One is my home! This is where I grew up and became a “teenager”. I know everyone here. But now, I have to start over. It’s nerve racking. But, it’s nothing to rack your brain over. It’s actually kind of exciting. There is a good and bad side to everything. But, you have to think about the positive things.

So I guess I will just throw a random number out there, 3.14

2. I think I was a little late, I would mess around then notice i have to get things in line. I am not going to be in honors next year most likely because of fooling around.

3. Um, no not really, it's decent, my favorite part is being in last hour looking forward to chilling with my friends. School itself is boring, but some of my teachers made it a little better or a little worse, I just suggest being focused on school while in school so you dont get lost and confused in the middle of a lesson.

To get through 8th grade, u need 2 take work seriously. Teachers are less tolerant about u turning in latework and skipping on assignments. If u r absent, teachers expect u to make up the work, and if u dont finish by an assignment's due date, u will not get extra time.
In seventh grade, teachers were nicer than in 8th, only beacuse they expect u to be more mature than u were in seventh grade, and have expectations for u to do well.
My favorite class would have to be social studies. The class is really easy. to be honest, i NEVER pay attention in that class, but the work is so simple, that its an easy "A".

Aright,in response to ur first question, I thot the year was pretty easy. Ya, there were some challenges and stuff like that, with a manditory science fair project, and some other big assignments, but u just gotta relax a bit about it. I procrastinated about everything, but got it all done, and did okay, but u rlly shud study hard and stay focused to do well.
In 8th grade honors, the work was harder. u wont just b focusing on linears, but doing more work with quadratics and exponentials. Then, towards the end of the year, u will take the AQT for highschool advanced placement. Ur math teacher will be more strict, only cuz she wants to prepare u better for highschool.
The classes for 8th grade were overall, pretty easy and somewat fun. Dont worry, just do ur work, and you will do fine. (>'-')>

Sometimes the amount of homework will vary from time to time and if your lucky you will have none. So the time you spend on homework all depends, but on an average I would say it takes about an hour to an hour and a half to do the homework at the best of your abilities. But don't get discouraged if you need help just ask a friend or ask your teacher.

2. The homewrok and class work usually deal with the same thing so after you are done with class you will know how to do your homework the right way. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would say the class work and homework are a 6 to a 7.

Answers for Seventh Graders

Question from E.K.
Q1: On a scale of 1 to 10 I think it was only a 6 to be successful in eighth grade. The classes were particularly easy for me but it took a lot of effort and about an hour a night to finish all of the homework.
Q2: On a scale of 1 to 10 I think it was only a 7 for the honors classes because, as I said before, all it takes if effort and time at night for homework.
Q3: Personally, I think that Mrs. Campbell (the honors language arts teacher) is one of the best because of how she makes the class laugh and she teaches her curriculum just the way she wanted. In a close second, however, I would say that Ms. Leckman is a great teacher as well because she can rush through subjects and yet the students will still know most of the things needed to do the subject.

Questions from C.H.
Q1: You have to work to the best of your abilities to get the best in eighth grade but the only thing you have to do to obtain success is to pay attention and put effort into your work, and for some of my friends, (J.B. and R.W.!) do your work.
Q2: If you do not know your stuff you may need to study for a very long amount of time but if you do know your stuff you may only need to study for a little bit.
Q3: In eighth grade you have about three big projects. The Science Fair is a very difficult project that takes several months. The Tolerance portfolio in language arts was very difficult and you will have to do every single paper and more and that takes several weeks. In Math you have to do a online project that takes about two or three weeks, unfortunately I forgot what it is, but it is not a very large project.

Question 1. On a scale of 1 to 10 how hard was it to be successful in the 8th grade?
On a scale from one to ten I would say five. The best thing to do in order to be successful, is just to do all of your work to the best of your ability. Then you're sure to do great!

Question 2. On a scale of 1 to 10 how hard is 8th grade honors?
On a scale from one to ten i would say that 8th grade honors is about a 6 or 7. The most important things to do are to take notes, pay attention, and do ALL of your homework. And if you dont understand somethings, then it is really important to ask questions. Then going through math will be a breeze.

Question 3. Who is the best 8th teacher?
In my opinion, I would say that my language arts honors teacher is the best eigth grade teacher. She is really nice and has a great sense of humor. Although, I would say that the honors teachers (both math and language arts)are the best teachers I've had.

1.To complete your work to the best of your abilities every night, it would take you around 3 good hours. The reason is because you have at least one hour for language arts if you want to put great thought and meaning into your work. Next, there's another hour for math because you have to show your work and prove that your calculations are correct.(Showing your work is a major key in AEP math) Finally, you have probably around an hour left for the rest of your classes. You usually don't get homework for the rest of your classes but when you do it takes around an hour to get it correct.
2.I would rate the classwork and the homework an 8. Sometimes the classwork is easy and didn't take that much time. But most of the time, it takes forever because you need to put a lot of thought and detail into what you are doing. If you're a hard working student that likes to put 100% into everything you do, then you'll be fine. If you're not, you should try to over the summer. :) The homework is exactly the the classwork. If you understand the classwork then you'll most likely understand the homeowrk. If you don't its good to have friends so you can discuss the answers and ask for help. If you still need help, then come in early in the morning and ask your teachers for help. They're always avaible.
3.Personally, I don't prefer AEP math. It comes as a challege and you need to keep up. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate AEP math a 8.5. It's really hard most of the time. The teacher pushes us to our learning abilities and when we don't perform as good as we should, then it's very disappointing. To help you succeed in math, all I can say is ask questions and do as much extra work on you chapters and studies that can until you can do the specific problems in your sleep. At the end of 8th grade, the problems get some what easier but during the year, your brain is in overload.

I hope that my advice helps you and you can succeed in the 8th grade. :)

1.I believe that the meanest teacher that you could have in the eighth grade is one of the science teachers. Science has the meanest teacher because that teacher doesn't teach you anything and gets upset when students talk back. To please the teacher, I would say that you need to suck up and do all the work. You need to do all the extra credit given to you until you have over a hundred percent. To please the teacher, try not to talk a lot either, or else they will get angry and upset and you don't want that.
2.The eighth grade honors class aren't much harder than seventh grade. The only major difference is the class work and homework. In seventh grade, you didn't have homework every night. You only had long term assignments. In the eighth grade, you have homework mostly every night except weekends. Also, long terms assignments (book reports. To save you some time and effort, try your hardest to finish all you class work in class because then you'll have to finish it for homework. Other than that, there's not much of a difference.
3.In the beginning of the year, I was so nervous about going to high school! I was afraid of leaving all my friends and all the new ones I would make. As the year went on, I realized that I needed to move on with my life and that by going to high school, I was preparing myself for college. The only nervousness I face is graduation. I'm nervous to see how my friends will change without myself being around them and guiding them. So, I'm not really nervous about going to high school, but more anxious.

I hope my advice helps you in the 8th grade! Good luck!

For your third question i do like AEP math. The math teacher is really good and she actually teaches(but you already know that) unlike some 8th grade teachers. On a scale of 1to10 the class would be a 5 but you just have to do your work and dont talk in math because she'll beat you with the Algebra 1 book(i've gone to the nurse so many times because of that)

For the first question it's easy at the end of the year. For the second question the eigth grade is just as hard as the seventh grade. So if 7th grade was hard than the 8th grade will be to and vice versa. Keep that barney shirt dont sell it on ebay

1. I usually play at first then do my homework because homework is boring and i never feel like doing it. You have to leave some time to do your homework so you dont blow it off like my friend K.G. and do it after midnight because he spent his whole afternoon swimming in a world of dreams.
2.They are pretty much the same. You will have a lil bit more hw in eighth grade but not much more. The classes are pretty much the same tho.
3.I learned more in my eighth grade because that is when i had THE BEST TEACHERS (Particularly the AEP teachers) nd i actually payed attention

What's my line?
